We move back into the house next week……so these renovation photos and updates will taper off…..so please bear with me if they are starting to bore you!  My own home is sortof all consuming at the moment.  Below is Maddie and Harry’s playroom as of this past weekend.  Everything done except for changing out the media outlets so the plates will be white and more updated.

While the space is small, I decided I wanted to take one wall and have a large display type book wall constructed.  We decided that wooden dowels would not be sturdy enough for the span we needed for these shelves….as they might sag.  So, our builder recommended that we use metal conduit instead.  Once I saw a piece….I actually loved the idea of keeping it exposed vs. having it painted.  I love the way it turned out (and by the way….this thing is so secure….it is not coming down no matter what the kids do to it.)  I will admit though….the thought has crossed my mind….will Harry see a bookcase….or a ladder?!?!?  He wasn’t walking when this idea was conceived…..and now, well…..he most certainly is!

The rug that I’ll use on the floor is indoor / outdoor, was extremely affordable (I call it disposable) and will be fun until it’s got enough “oops” moments that we need to get something new.

I am doing simple pewter finished custom drapery rods from a local (trade only) Dallas shop that specializes in iron rods.  And, I am using the below fabric from Pindler & Pindler for functional Euro-pleated panels.

I am re-using a piece we had custom made for our first home (townhouse) that has no clear use in this house where our wall space is limited now that we’ve opened everything up.  I think it will be a great piece for storage.  I hope the movers can get this up the stairs and into the little playroom without event…..(Sorry, only photo I have of it was from a post to show off the lamps I’d scored at a Niermann Weeks sample sale a few years ago.)

The piece was originally made to fit into a shallow dining room alcove so it is long and not overly deep…..perfect for this small-ish room.  Above it, I want to be able to display the kids’ art on the fly.  So, I will either hang a series of clipboards or some sort of wire (maybe even jump ropes?) with clips so we can hang stuff as it is created….and change it out often.  Some ideas I’ve collected are below….

So, that is as far as I’ve gotten.  The kids have so many toys…..I am not kidding myself…this space is a playroom….it will be used and abused.  Plastic will abound and function will be more important than the way it looks.  But, at least I’ve got a fun little foundation.

What do you think?
