One Week Challenge – Week 5

Welcome back as we participate as a link up participant in the Fall 2015 One Room Challenge™.  If you are just finding us today, you can see week oneweek twoweek three and week four.  (You can also see the past challenges we participated in, doing a graphic playroom with Custom Photo Wallpaper, and ourlight and bright office renovation.) We also played along as a linking participant in the spring, tackling my son, Harry’s Big Boy Bedroom.

As I mentioned previously, the family room was refreshed in 2011-2012 when we did a whole house remodel of our 1929 cottage in Dallas.  The room has a mix of furniture, some new and some collected.

The room is coming together nicely…..but it is clear that it won’t be done in time to professional photograph for a true final reveal next week.  More on that later.  Here is what has been going on.

Petrified Palm Wood_opt

I picked up this amazing piece of petrified palm wood and mounted it on an acrylic box to stash all of the TV remotes and “junk” that is always about.  This was a super easy DIY and I love it.

I found out that the stools I ordered from Lee will ship next Tuesday.  This is coming freight to a receiver… absolutely no way they will be here for a reveal.  But here is what I ordered (a pair). The base is being done in weathered grey on oak.  And the fabric will match the Parsons chairs that were discussed last week.

The stools will sit under the art I shared last week and anchor it on that wall.  They will be easily moved for extra seating or to serve as ottomans for the new seating areas in the room.  Here is an old (kitchen chairs have been replaced) view into the kitchen…..the wood on the ottomans is very close to the table…..which is nice since the space is so open.

I’ve also been busy moving lighting around, finding accessories, side tables, etc.  So, I’ll have plenty to share next week but, it won’t be “done” and for that reason I am holding off on the professional photos.  Here is why.  I’ve mentioned our house was built in the 1920s.  We remodeled several years ago and added no square footage….just refreshed the house.  But, in the history of the house it has had two additions and for whatever reason they were not standing the test of time.  Last week, we had to have 16 piers added to the back of the house (it is common to have pier and beam in this part of the country).  While the process is done and all went well….the structural engineer told me not to do any touch up or work on the house for 90 days to allow things to stabilize.  This means, no wallpaper on the back of the shelves just yet.  I hate waiting…..but I also hate wasting money and I worry ignoring his advice could cause that….

Given that the shelves won’t be “done” and I am waiting on the fabrics one of the sofas to come back from being backed and that I am waiting on the stools….I am going to hold off on the investment of professional photos. But, I promise to be back here next week with my attempt of a true view of where we have come….and I am pretty pleased with the space.  Professional photos will follow and if you follow me on Instagram I’ll share when they are done.

Now, head on over to Calling it Home and see what everyone else is up to.  Don’t forget to look at the official Wednesday group if you haven’t already!
