I was over at the house yesterday getting the remaining windows measured so we can finalize all of the window treatment orders. The kitchen island and the fireplace have been painted and I am loving the grey! They were also setting the counter-tops. I am in love!
I thought I would share the elements that will make up the space. You all know I’ve selected Bianco Macabus Quartzite (see close up of it in our butler’s pantry above), that the perimeter cabinets are white (glaze TBD) and the island is grey. The kitchen backsplash is being done in an Ann Sacks field tile with a decorative tile at the bottom. The first image below shows the color of subway tiles (which will be 3×6)….the second, the shape of the decorative tile…..but it will be in the same pale grey. We are also doing matching tile casing around the over-sink window and carrying the backsplash up the wall in that space.
For over the kitchen table, I finally bit the bullet and ordered the custom Niermann Weeks chandelier that I have loved for so long.

I think this fixture will soften the look in the room….as the below Visual Comfort pendants (2) are going over the island. I like that the chandelier will not obstruct views into the adjoining family room.
I have shared the table I am using in the kitchen before. It is from Wisteria and being from Dallas I was able to go sit at the table before purchasing!
The main chairs around the table will be these from Guildmaster in a Vintage White finish.

Their seat cushions will be done in this fabric by Galbraith & Paul.

The host / hostess chairs will be these from Lee Industries….The chairs are on casters and the accent pillow will be the Galbraith & Paul fabric above.

We are going with the below barstools, also from Lee Industries. They’ll have a weathered white finish and the fabric swatch below will be the upholstery on both the barstools and the host / hostess chairs. These are such comfy barstools!

I’ve taken what might be considered a bold move for the window treatments and am doing pink. I am going with Lee Jofa’s Belgravia and I have loved this fabric for some time…..

Honestly, this is the only decision I’ve made where I’ve had to convince my husband to trust me. The walls are a pale grey….I don’t think this room is going to be overly feminine. Lucky for me…..he is willing to trust. I did show him this next photo to illustrate this fabric used on windows.

I am planning to do the below mirror over the mantel….if you have read my blog from the beginning you will know I’ve loved this piece for a LONG time and am very happy that Wisteria now has a nice version available. Again, I’ve seen it and really liked it in person.
So, there you have the current progress in the kitchen. It is coming along…still need to finalize hardware (I want a very simple look…..just trying to find ones without too wide of a backplate as we don’t have a lot of room on our cabinet drawers because of the way the panel is raised.) This is what I am working through at the moment…..
I am not planning to do a rug in the eating area at this point…..with little kids I think it is just not the most practical. What are your thoughts about rugs or no rugs in the kitchen? I’d love to hear.
So, there you have it….current progress. I cannot believe we will be in this kitchen cooking, living and making memories in just over a month!

January 19th, 2012 at 8:46 amWell, first of all, agree with you on the “no rugs” idea. It’s just simpler to maintain. Your vision for this space is elegant and happy:) It is so exciting when something you have been planning in your mind for so long starts to actually emerge, isn’t it? So pretty and wish you the making of many wonderful memories in this space with your family.

January 19th, 2012 at 9:34 amI just adore your choices! Would you mind sharing the paint color for the island as well as the walls? I am looking a for a nice gray and love the ones you have chosen! Thanks for sharing.
January 19th, 2012 at 11:05 amThanks for the comments, the walls throughout the main areas of the house (except LR and DR) are Benjamin Moore’s Balboa Mist. The island is a 200% formula of Benjamin Moore’s Galveston Grey. Good luck!
January 19th, 2012 at 11:12 amLove the strie in the island – very unique! Everything is looking great and you can’t go wrong with the Neirmann Weeks Chandelier – it always looks fantastic!
January 19th, 2012 at 11:22 amSusie,
I love everything you’ve chosen – and the “in progress” shot looks amazing! Oh, how I could use your help while I stumble through all my renovation choices!!! Stressful!
I know you can’t wait to get back in there and start cooking up a storm!

Wow – LOVE all your selections!! I too love that Wisteria mirror.
I have also opted not to have a rug in our kitchen and dining room (which is our main eating space) for the same reason. I feel like I am constantly sweeping up messes in those rooms — so someday when the kids are bigge
January 19th, 2012 at 2:04 pmLooks fabulous so far. Love the island color and love the light fixtures. I almost bought the Wisteria table. Lots of flexibility in the length.
How are you holding up with all of these decisions?
