Fall 2015 One Room Challenge – Week 4

Welcome back as we participate as a link up participant in the Fall 2015 One Room Challenge™.  If you are just finding us today, you can see week oneweek two and week three.  (You can also see the past challenges we participated in, doing a graphic playroom with Custom Photo Wallpaper, and our light and bright office renovation.) We also played along as a linking participant in the spring, tackling my son, Harry’s  Big Boy Bedroom.

As I mentioned previously, the family room was refreshed in 2011-2012 when we did a whole house remodel of our 1929 cottage in Dallas.  The room has a mix of furniture, some new and some collected.

The room is coming together nicely…..and here is what is happening.  Art is up on the wall and I love how it adds color in the space. It is prettier in person, my photography skills lack.  For reference, the walls are grey, not beige as they read here.

I also mentioned previously that I wanted to find a pair of chairs for this dead space between the family room seating and the kitchen.  This is a direct zone you see from the front door.  We were at a party a few weeks ago and (in passing) I told the host I loved the chairs in her home office.  In fact, they are by a vendor I am working to get in my shop. Turns out, she was getting rid of them and I picked them up for a pretty good price…..plus instant gratification!  I’ll re-cover them (likely post ORC) but for now I am happy.

The pillows, which are much better in good light (photography), were a find from my favorite store in Dallas, Blue Print.  The blue and peach in the pillows play well with the art…and I was happy to find them and not have to have something made.

I’ve faced a couple of setbacks this week that will likely mean the full reveal won’t be ready by the deadline.  My upholsterer came by to pick up the fabrics to re-cover the sofa/daybed and recommended having them backed.  We could have made it work to meet the deadline if we skipped this step but in the end, my main goal here is a pulled together and family friendly (durable) space….so, I shipped the fabrics off to be backed.  They are saying November 9th is when they will be ready to ship back…..

I also have a pair of x bench stools with cerused oak legs from Lee being upholstered with this fabric to go under the art to anchor it…and to serve as footstools for the new parsons arm-chairs (from last week) and/or chairs above.  I had been told they were running on a 5 week lead time when I ordered them a few weeks ago….but now am hearing they won’t ship until late November.  What can you do? Nothing! (Incidentally, if you follow me on Instagram the client chairs I posted about this week that are now shipping were ordered in late July……so this industry isn’t known for its speed these days…at least not when you want custom.)

Anyhow, we are already loving the space with the four extra chairs, the art up and some minimal coffee table styling so all in all I am pretty happy.   I feel pretty confident that by the time the holidays roll around all will be done and we will be ready to build some new memories in our space.

Now, hope on over to Calling It Home and see what everyone else is up to (don’t forget to check yesterday’s group for the official participants as well).
