I have quite an accumulation of Maddie’s “Art” from preschool and our Mommy and Me type classes we do. (By the way, if you are in Northern VA with young children you should check out Wee Play…we are going to miss “Miss Kathy” and her great program when we move!) Anyways, I am saving Maddie’s creations and plan to take photos of them so I can similarly scale and have them either framed (inexpensively) or made into a poster.
I love this display of artwork in the room of Leila, daughter of Velvet & Linen blogger Brooke Giannetti. They used Pottery Barn frames to showcase Leila’s artwork. I love how the white frames help the artwork pop against the blue walls.

Here is another similar inspiration, white frames and matting being used to display children’s art in the family breakfast area.

Another idea I love is from Sixx Design. Love the idea of taking photographs of kids’ artwork and having it made into a poster. Saves on space while allowing memories to be preserved…
What about you? Do you have any great ideas for displaying your children’s art to share?

Susie–its funny–I just saw a similar post at this blog. Its more for temporary display, before you take the pics. (Framed cork board that you can use to tack up pictures, but have a more finished look). I love your ideas though…esp making things into a poster. Do you know how to do it?
November 10th, 2010 at 7:10 amI really do need to do a better job of displaying my children’s art! That poster idea is genius! Great DIY plan for this year! Hope you and baby are doing well!!!
November 10th, 2010 at 7:55 amI have my children’s art throughout the house, once hung a series of eight white frames similar to the top image. The idea of copying the art smaller and making a poster is a brilliant idea! I love when people are open to displaying their childrens art, my examples were once a post on Apartment Therapy and I was truly surprised by the rude comments by people mocking the idea of calling the pieces “art”. What, I thought?! Lighten up!

I have grandchildren and I always have a special picture drawn by them so I put up 3 8×10 black frames in the playroom and that is where they are displayed. I am having glass knobs with their names on them and they will hang from a ribbon. Love the idea of the poster too. The frames are easy because I can rotate their artwork. They use a coloring book or computer paper so it always fits in the frame! How is your Mom doing?
November 10th, 2010 at 10:18 amWe are pretty casual at my home. I have four framed pieces of art in the dining room. For the playroom, I bought 2 tension wires for curtains and clip the artwork on the wire. This way they can add to it or change out their masterpieces whenever they choose. It really stands out because I painted varying sized stripes on the wall. The center stripe is large so it fits frames the artwork as well.

Even though my boys are grown, I still have art they created when they were 5,6 & 7. It’s nothing like your childrens art
November 10th, 2010 at 6:14 pmi love the poster version of all the artwork – i wonder how you get that done?
November 11th, 2010 at 11:58 pmI think displaying children’s art work is terrific. My kids are always so proud when they see their work up on the walls. Check out http://www.artsonia.com – our elementary school art teachers scans the kids artwork (with our permission) and posts it on the site. From there, you can order all kinds of products using different images (notecards, mugs for grandparents, books with the images, etc.). Parents can also upload images.
