Getting Back in the Swing of Things....

When it rains, it pours, right? I had to very unexpectedly head out of town on Friday and got home late last night. My husband did a great job with the kids, canceled a boatload of meetings at clients yesterday and kept them alive and happy. But, the house is a mess….the fridge empty and thanks to a painting incident…..I may not have to beg for a new family room couch much longer!

Harry and I have already had a busy morning, grocery shopping (Dad deserves a nice glass of wine and a yummy dinner), two post office runs and a trip to see progress on the house. I am going to take the rest of the day off for a picnic in the park, laundry and clean up around here (you seriously would never know the housekeeper was here all day yesterday).

I’ll see you back here tomorrow!

And, P.S. if I owe you a return email…..it is coming, I promise!

I am fortunate to live in a neighborhood with a very active and involved network of parents. I joined our neighborhood preschool association as soon as we moved here last year and decided to jump in and join a committee to try to meet people. This association has one big fundraiser a year, a Holiday Home Tour, and all proceeds go to support the Kindergarten classes at our two neighborhood elementary schools, Armstrong and Bradfield. In the past 11 years the group has raised over $350,000 that directly benefits our schools. Last year, this fundraiser provided nearly $60,000 to our schools.

The tour is finally here on Friday…..and it is sure to be great! The 12^th annual Armstrong Bradfield Preschool Association Homes for the Holidays Home Tour will feature four homes in Highland Park, Texas + one bonus home with wine & canapés. It is this Friday, from 9:30-1:00 pm. If you are interested in attending, feel free to stop by the neighborhood Tom Thumbs or purchase online here.

We're Back....

Well, after 10 wonderful days at the beach we are back.

Now it is back to reality. Maddie is back in school, our beloved Beagle “General” is in critical care at the hospital, decisions to be made for the house, and a huge back-load of buying service requests. But, it was all worth it….we had such an incredible vacation. Four days sans kids (thanks nanny and auntie) and a week with family capped off with a great family wedding and it is a trip we will remember fondly for a while!

My house is a mess. The electricians are in my daughter’s room moving nearly every outlet in preparation for the wainscoting that is going in next week. Harry’s room is coming close to being done….but it is slower than I had expected. Tons of work on my plate, daily swimming lessons, etc. etc. The end of the day cannot come soon enough.

There is another online magazine on the block. Have you heard about it? Entra, which debuted last week, is the brainchild of a handful of former Architectural Digest editors, photographers, etc. who left when the guard changed.

I have only had a chance to do a quick scan of the first issue. Here are a couple of images that more than caught my eye. Did your last vacation suite look like the one below?
