More Kitchen Inspiration....

In our remodel, I know I want to paint the existing perimeter cabinetry a white or off white. The new island will be painted a blue/grey. I want thick marble countertops and a checkerboard floor (inspiration here and here).

I’ve been thinking a lot about what kind of backsplash I want. This photo (from the February 2011 Veranda) from a Suzanne Kasler design has inspired me both in the backsplash and lighting categories. Love it!

Wouldn’t you love to call this kitchen your own? I just have to convince my husband that our perfectly good Viking backsplash needs to be replaced. While stainless looks nice….I find it a bear to keep clean. I really want my selections to be as practical as they are beautiful. Fingers crossed, we’ll be here for a long while!

Interestingly enough, my mudroom inspiration also comes from this same home.

As a side note, I feel like I am constantly apologizing for my lack of posts (and commenting on other blogs) these days. The combination of work really picking up (spring refresh, anyone?), more commitments with the kids, trying to get myself involved in our community, a husband working a TON and a baby who has started rolling over in the night and then freaking out because he doesn’t know how to get back to his back….makes this woman a wee bit tired! But, it is all good. I am blessed.

Mud Room Inspiration....

Who knew how important a mudroom was until I lost mine. Our new home has a detached garage with quarters. So, on a typical day we enter and exit through our kitchen door. I hate this….hate that mail and shoes and dirty dish rags and bibs accumulate here. I really want to find a way to attach our garage and home, add a mudroom and perhaps a “mom’s office” or command central for day to day living.

Sunburst Mirror Saga --- An end in sight?

You may recall that I blogged here about my quest to find a sunburst mirror I had seen in a past Veranda feature.

I then found an image of a similar mirror used in Suzanne Kasler’s home…..

And subsequently awaited the introduction of her new line for Ballard Designs…..hoping a reproduction of this mirror might surface…..but alas, no luck yet. At one point, I located a reproduction through 1stDibs. But, the mirror was manufactured in China and the price tag over $2,000…..I was not keen on spending the money not knowing the vendor or the manufacturer…..

I’ll have to admit that once I learned we were moving, I slowed down on my search for this mirror. Who knows if it would work well in our new place. But, on a recent look at the Lonny site, I came across this image. The mirror looks similar, no?

So, I emailed Lonny and quickly received a reply back from Michelle Adams (how’s that for great service?). The source of the mirror above was John Rosselli & Associates. And, they carry a painted reproduction version meaning that there is more than one available.

I like this version…..and while I do not know if my new home will have the perfect place for it I wanted to share it. I’ve gotten tons of emails from readers who have found me while searching for this same mirror…..so hopefully it will help someone out!

Mirror Look Alike.....

This Suzanne Kasler designed dining room has been in my inspiration files for a while now. In fact, it sealed the deal on the round vs. rectangular debate when I was shopping for my dining room. (The table below is by New Classics and was out of my price range….but I love mine by Henredon just the same).

I also love the mirror which was from Mrs. Howard in Atlanta. So, today while doing some research for a client, I was excited to come across this newish mirror from Theodore Alexander. Not bad in the look alike category, in my opinion. Do you agree?

And, for those of you wondering about the other products, the chairs are from Artistic Frame. The fabulous grasscloth is from Phillip Jeffries and the fabric for the draperies is from Kelly Wearstler via Schumacher. I love it all!

On an unrelated note, thanks for all of the comments and emails of encouragement after my last post. I got a TON done off my to do list this week—which is making me feel much better. Today, while sitting through my joyous 28 week glucose test (praying I pass) I even made progress on one of the potty training books recommended (thanks Mindy)….so maybe success in that arena will follow soon too!

Seeing Double, Victoria Hagan's Summer Square Fabric....

I’ve long been a fan of this room by Suzanne Kasler. I am pretty sure it is her daughter’s bedroom.

So, when I saw this photo from Sixx Design I instantly knew I’d seen the fabric before….

A little more searching brought me to this image from the December 2006 issue of House Beautiful. The room was designed by Bobby McAlpine.

And, a little bit of detective work brought me to the source. This is the “Summer Square” fabric by Victoria Hagan Home Collection. It is available in 6 colorways on white ground; and in two colorways on natural ground. It is a cotton/linen blend and is manufactured here in the US. It isn’t cheap, but not outragous either. Suzanne Kasler for Ballard Designs

By now, it is no new news that Suzanne Kasler is creating a line for Ballard Designs, due out in the fall. I’ve been eagerly awaiting more information on this line. And, the Ballard Designs website now has some new information and promotions to build the hype.

First, Kasler decorated an entire house for Ballard, using their products. House Beautiful interviewed Kasler about the house and her design philosophy. The original images and interview can be found here.

If you follow my blog, you will not be surprised to know that I am so eagerly awaiting this new collection because I am hoping that an affordable version of a mirror I am in love with (see my quest to find this mirror here and here) will debut as part of this collection.

The Ballard Designs site has a few teasers up on their site–Kasler’s rough sketches of her product inspiration. Look at this one, could it be my mirror? I’d much prefer a Ballard Designs price……than the one I found via 1st Dibs! It is just not in the cards at the moment.

And, finally, House Beautiful and Ballard Designs have a contest related to all of this. First prize wins “A choice of rooms style by Suzanne Kasler.” Additional prizes include a signed copy of Kasler’s new book, Inspired Interiors, and House Beautiful’s “Colors for your Home” book. So, there you have it. I guess we will have to wait to see the final products. But, I’ve enjoyed the little teaser they have put out there!

P.S.– I drafted this post early yesterday AM. Yesterday afternoon a promotional email from Ballard Designs went out. Since that time, the links from here to the Suzanne Kasler home design and product design images are not working. A notice on the Ballard Designs website explains that they are currently experiencing high traffic volume and to check back later. Apologies in advance for any broken links….hopefully they will get their server sorted out soon. Excessive traffic? A nice problem to have, I suppose.

Have you seen this mirror?

I can usually track down a source in quick time. But, for the life of me I cannot find this mirror (or a reproduction). I first saw it in this Spanish Colonial Revival designed by Kathryn Ireland and featured in Veranda.

Right around the time the Veranda article came out, I noticed there was a very similar mirror in the Ballard Designs catalog. But, the item went out of stock almost immediately and is no longer offered. I was worried about quality at the time, but now I am kicking myself for not ordering it to see if it would work.

Then, surfing through design blogs, I came across this Suzanne Kasler bedroom. The mirror looks similar.

I want this mirror for over my mantel so badly. I don’t even typically like sunburst mirrors….so I cannot even put into words what it is about this mirror that I love. My husband is strongly against a mirror over the mantel. But, I love this mirror enough to purchase and have it hung…subscribing to the “better to ask for forgiveness than permission principle” that has served me well in the past.

I’ve emailed both of the designers, no luck there. I know that Suzanne Kasler is designing a line for Ballard Designs, so I am hoping my reproduction will show back up in an upcoming catalog. In the meantime, if you stumble across a source, I’d love to hear from you!
