Emily emailed me looking for a fabric similar to one she had on a hand-me-down chair from her mother.  It had been purchased through an interior designer in the 1980s, and she loved the large damask pattern on the chair.  However, as you can see from the before pictures below, the upholstery had seen better days.

Emily loved the fabric and was not looking for a major transformation.  My goal was to find a similar color, pattern and scale.  But, I also wanted to find a fabric that was a slight update on this traditional pattern.  I searched around and quickly found the perfect fabric from Gastón Y Daniela via my Brunschwig and Fils showroom at the DC Design Center. 

 

The fabric is from Spain and is a silk (57%) and polyester blend (43%).  The medallion is 13″ wide and 14″ tall.  We worked with the showroom and Emily’s upholsterer to ensure we had adequate yardage (and specific cut) to center the medallion on the front, back and seat of this chair.  We ended up ordering 3.5 yards of the fabric to be safe.   Below are “after” pictures of the finished product that Emily sent to me.  I like the slightly modern update on the traditional damask pattern.  What do you think?
